THE EXHIBITION:
SRISA Gallery is proud to present the artists Tamara Ronci & Rebecca Olsen in their exhibition, Imperfect Prints
This exhibition brings together the work of Tamara Ronci and Rebecca Olsen —artists, colleagues, friends, and printmakers — whose practices unfold within the liminal space between drawing, painting, and printmaking. Both artists challenge the historically reproductive dimension of printmaking, embracing imperfection and contingency as generative forces within their process.
Rejecting the pursuit of the perfect print, they approach the plate as a site of mutation— its matrix functioning as a form of DNA – with each print as a unique manifestation rather than a mere replication. Through acts of layering, erasure, repetition, and recombination, they engage printmaking as an evolving language, where failure and deviation catalyze new visual possibilities.
Their languages — one figurative, abstract the other — converge in a material and conceptual dialogue, where color, stratification, drawing, and collage coalesce into compositions that resist fixity, solicitng an ongoing process of transformation and discovery.
THE ARTIST:
Tamara Ronci (born 1987 in Florence, Italy) is a Florentine artist and printmaker. During her academic studies, she began cultivating a passion for experimentation, using printmaking and photographic printing techniques to push beyond the limits of drawing. This experimental approach became more defined during her time at SRISA, where she finally experienced the freedom of expression without constraints. Ronci considers herself fortunate to have been guided by great teachers—masters like Ron Pokrasso for printmaking and Patricia Silva for bookbinding—who taught her technique and discipline, expanding her artistic and theoretical horizons. These mentors helped her develop “intelligent hands” capable of skillfully shaping materials by deconstructing, reworking, and integrating images into the world—destroying and reconstructing them once again—a flow, according to Ronci, that must never be interrupted. This process drives her artistic experimentation forward to fulfill her dream of becoming a great Master herself.
Rebecca Olsen, is an Italy based multi-media artist, born in Florence, Italy to American artist parents and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Over the last twenty years as Executive Director and co-founder of SRISA, Santa Reparata International School of Art, she has helped to build SRISA into one of the leading art schools in Florence, Italy. As an artist she has exhibited her work internationally and is currently represented by the Whitegrid gallery in Berlin. As co-curator of the SRISA Gallery, Rebecca curated and co-curated the nearly 40 exhibitions working with artists and curators to build SRISA Gallery into a nationally and internationally recognized non-profit Art space for Artists from around the globe.
