Ben Gocker: Remote Work

THE EXHIBITION:

SRISA Gallery presents “Remote Work,” Ben Gocker’s first solo show in Florence, Italy, that explores the self through an artistic lens of complex compositions of visual language, curated by David Adamo.

Through “Remote Work,” Gocker reflects on the complexities of balancing his role as a public librarian, and the financial necessities of working to support oneself and a family while trying to maintain an art practice. The collection will embody an ongoing poetic scrutinizing of past or remote artworks from the artist’s life through office ephemera, emails, and screenshots taken at work.

Working as a make-shift “remote viewer,” Gocker will attempt to engage with the parapsychological practice developed by artist and psychic, Ingo Swann, to tune into impressions of a distant or unseen target, namely an earlier iteration of his artistic self. This morphing positions the remote worker in the genre of the middle-aged time traveler—navigating both the past and present.

The Gallery will function as a dynamic, evolving exhibition space with the artist in attendance for ongoing interventions and occasional poetry readings.
